Stefanakis Yiannis

 Yiannis Stefanakis was born in 1951, in Grigoria of Heraklion, Crete. Well before, as well as during his studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts, he worked as a typesletter. At ASFA he studied Painting, Engraving, Religious Painting, Typography and Book Art. He has published the “Neo Epipedo” magazine and collectable books with his own engravings.

 In 1994, he co- rganized with Margarita Vasilakou the 1st Panhellenic Comics Festival at Eleftheria Park (Municipality of Athens) and in 2012 in June the 2nd at the same place. In 2018 the Neo Epipedo magazine received a state award. He publishes collector’s handmade editions on the poetry of important greek poets. He has also done many engraving seminars and workshops at School of Fine Arts in the Mediterranean. His works have graced the covers of many literary books while, with his visual work, he has conversed with poets on the pages of their books.

 He has over 34 solo exhibitions to his credit. A retrospective exhibition of his work was presented at the Municipal Gallery of Athens from 16/1 until 16/2/ 2025. He has also taken part in more than 130 group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. In 2009 in Skopje-north Macedonia, he was honored with a special award. His works can be found in the Greek National Museum of Contemporary Art, several Museums and Art Galleries, as well as in important private collections in Greece and abroad.
In 2020 his film "The Wheel" (video animation) received the second prize at the Athens Αnimfest and "The Moment" in 2019 received a special mention.
